The next generation of Open Class gliders soaring for the first time

The new ASH 30 Mi preparing for its maiden flight.

The end of a long development period was in sight and the tension was evident on the faces of the team. At long last the prototype is sitting on the runway of the historic Wasserkuppe airfield awaiting its maiden flight.

The expectations are high! After all, this is a totally new design incorporating the latest generation of airfoils and a long list of innovations.

The prototype team is pleased with their workmanship just ahead of the big event

Designer Martin Heide had the honor of occupying the front seat while co-director Peter Kremer sat in the back.

Flying conditions were anything but ideal fort he maiden flight. With a gusty 25 kt westerly blowing an uphill takeoff became unavoidable.

The big moment - the ASH 30 Mi is in its element.

Even at first sight the unmistakable "Schleicher silhouette" was evident when looking at the ASH 30 Mi. Once again, Martin Heide has combined elegance and function in a stunning design distinctly different from the ASH 25.

The successful maiden flight lasted for 1:13 h.

That the high expectations were fully met can be clearly seen by looking at the faces of the people involved.
