The K2 has been conquered
Sebastian Kawa started his K2 expedition from Pakistan. On 22.07.2024 the time had come.
To be the first. A goal that many pilots embrace. But many are denied the chance to turn their dream into reality. Sebastian Kawa, however, started an expedition this year to fulfill this dream. Sebastian is among those pilots who have acquired worldwide fame. His countless world championship titles in various classes make him one of the most successful competition pilots of our time. In 2021, he won the final of the Gliding Grand Prix on the AS 33 and was thus crowned world champion. Now he has set himself the goal of “taking off” in other areas too. Since the beginning of July, he and his crew have been putting this expedition into practice. The aircraft of choice is an ASH 25 Mi! We are of course particularly pleased about this.
On July 22, the time had finally come. The Polish flag from Sebastian’s home country flew out of the side window of the ASH 25 Mi directly above K2, which at 8611m is the second highest mountain in the world. As you can read on Sebastian’s Facebook channel, the joy was great, despite the problems beforehand. They had to overcome huge bureaucratic hurdles before this success, because gliding, let alone expeditions like this, had never been done before in Pakistan.
We could go on and on about how much effort, resources and hard work go into such an undertaking. How great it is to explore new regions and never lose the spirit of adventure. But we want to let the pictures sink in and refer you to Sebastian’s stories. You can find them here.
