Five new trainees have started their careers with us this year. Two of them are training to become automotive painters, two are training to become lightweight aircraft builders, and one is learning the trade of metalworker specialising in construction technology.

We currently employ a total of 16 trainees – nine lightweight aircraft builders, three metalworkers, two automotive painters, one office management assistant and one technical product designer.

‘Our trainees are a central part of our future,’ emphasises Uli Kremer. ‘They are learning professions in which genuine craftsmanship counts. If they are enthusiastic about it, that is exactly what we need to continue building gliders of the highest quality.’

Alexander Schleicher GmbH & Co. is not only the oldest, but also one of the largest glider manufacturers in the world, with around 115 employees, including trainees. Since its foundation in 1927, Schleicher has stood for reliable, high-quality workmanship ‘Made in Rhön’. Gliders and motor gliders are precision-crafted in Poppenhausen and exported to all continents via a worldwide network of representatives.

What makes us special is the combination of tradition and innovation. Modern manufacturing techniques meet genuine craftsmanship here – an ideal environment for young people who want to create something with their own hands.

Training at Schleicher offers varied tasks, short distances and a friendly atmosphere. As the only training company in the region, we offer training as a light aircraft builder – one of the most versatile skilled trades there is. It combines knowledge and skills from a wide range of areas – from working with metals, plastics and wood to electronics and engine technology. This broad training opens up excellent prospects for qualified specialists in other technical fields as well.

‘Those who start with us not only learn a profession, but also become part of a team that works with passion, skill and a forward-looking approach to build a strong future. Our goal is to continuously develop ourselves further,’ says Joschka Schmeisl (training manager).
