In 1967 the tandem two-seater ASK 13 replaced the K 7 in series-production. The new mid wing model was more pleasing and comfortable than the traditional tried and tested high wing configuration.
After production at Schleicher stopped with a final total of 617 ASK 13s, a further 77 aircraft were built under license by the Youth Training Centre at Oerlinghausen.
