Göran Ax has died

Ex-world champion dies following an automobile accident

We have received the sad news that on 24 February 2018 Göran Ax died as a result of a tragic automobile accident at the age of 74.  Göran was not only a passionate soaring pilot but was also our representative in Sweden for over three decades.

He was also closely connected to aviation in his professional life as an airline pilot for Scandinavian airlines. His greatest achievements in soaring included his two world championships in 1972 (Open class, Nimbus 2) and in 1981 (15m racing class, ASW 20). In the 1968 and 1993 world championships he came second and in 1978 third.

He was also very successful in Swedish championships, the last time in 2013 when he became Swedish Champion in the Open Class with his ASH 31 Mi.

We thank Göran for his hard work and will remember him as a very engaging flying and business partner who will be very much missed by us and the whole soaring community.  We send our deepest condolences especially to his family and his friends.
