From 1.8. to 12.8. the “FCC Gliding” competition took place in Prievidza. During this time, with mixed weather at the beginning, 10 days could be flown. Michael Streit was able to keep his nerves even on the weak days in his AS 33 Es and managed to beat the competition in the end. But AS 33 Es pilots were also able to fly their way onto the podium in Austria and Rieti.

His placements on the weakest days of the competition were also impressive. With distances averaging 200 km on a 2:00h AAT, he was able to show that the AS 33 Es not only has its strengths in good weather conditions with high wing loads but also competes at the front in weak weather.

Michael had one thing in common with this year’s other AS 33 successes. Like the other pilots, he managed this victory after only a short period of acclimation to the AS 33 Es. He had only three flights on the aircraft before the championship. A number that seems remarkable against the background is that it went on the competition on 10 of 12 possible days on a task. A number where consistency and experience matter.

His father Leopold, who was his helper at the competition, sent us a summary about the competition and the AS 33 Es.

“Michael is completely thrilled with the new AS 33 Es. He praises especially the good climb with full water tanks and then of course the good glide in fast forward flight. Also, the handling, as well as the flight characteristics, are very pleasant.
The first competition days were marked by small weather windows with AAT tasks. The main thing here was not to make any major mistakes. The software solutions of the instrumentation with all the different possibilities first had to be sorted, tried out, and entered in detail. From the 3rd flight on, this was solved and Michael could fully concentrate on the task with all the possible solutions.
The 4th day was one of the most difficult with a 268 km racing task. Only one participant in the Combi class could finish the task.  Michael was missing just 100 meters in the final approach. Fortunately, there were only a few points, so the damage was not that high. Day 5 and 6 were again AATs with narrow weather windows with 2:30 h and 2 h respectively.  Here Michael again praised the excellent handling characteristics of the AS 33 Es with good climb with full water ballast.
On day 7 Michael achieved his first day victory. Towards the end of the competition, the weather became better and better and he was able to use the full potential of the AS 33 Es with good climbing and fast long forward flights.
On the 9th day, he took the lead in the Combi class.
Also on the last day, there was a Racing Task over 459 km and it became the third day victory.
With this, the final result was also fixed with 1st place.”

Furthermore, Jon Gatfield was able to fight his way to second place in Rieti at the “Coppa Internazionale del Mediterraneo 2021”.
Michael Rass also made it to second place in his AS 33 Es. However, he competed in the Austrian Championships. There Guido Achleitner could also fly in the overall victory with the ASG 32 Mi!

The entire Schleicher team congratulates to those successes!
