After the Schleicher Wankel engine had proven itself in the ASH 26 E, it was also used in the Open class two-seater. Consequently, the retriever-engine equipped ASH 25 E became the self-launching motor sailplane ASH 25 M.
1n 1999 the engine manufacturer developed a fuel injection system for this engine. Together with a new, specially tuned propeller made by Schleicher this meant a performance increase which was reflected in the designation of ASH 25 Mi.
