ASW 22 BLE 50R
Walter Binder installed a 2 cylinder Rotax 505A engine also in the B version of the ASW 22 with 25 m wing, with various wing tips and winglets. This self-launching motor glider was designated ASW 22 BLE.
From 1997 on Schleicher’s own propulsion unit based on the Midwest-Wankel engine was used in the open class single seater. In order to differentiate between the ASW 22 BLE and the Wankel engine version it was given the additional designation of “50R”, derived from the Wankel engine name AE 50 R.
